Printer Configuration and Troubleshooting

The following topic will help you understand how to properly configure Seiko SII RPD / RPE and Epson Printers to work with your Vital Select app.

Note

Ensure power and Ethernet (data) connections are in place.

The printer network and sub-net must match the point-of-sale subnet. Therefore, if the tablet or all-in-one running the point-of-sale app has a LAN IP of 192.168.1.55, then your Printer must be in the 192.168.1.x subnet, with the final IP octet being up to the end user, provided it does not conflict with other machines on the network.

To display the Settings for your Printer:

  • Power off the printer by holding down the Power button.
  • Press and hold the Feed Button while simultaneously holding the Power Button
  • Release the Feed Button when a Receipt starts printing.
  • This Parameter Receipt will display all relevant information for the Printer.

The bottom of the Receipt will display a few parameters:

  • IP Address (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)
  • DHCP (enabled) or (disabled)

If your Printer has DHCP Enabled:

  • Check the IP address and verify that it matches your POS
  • If not, change the IP address in your POS to match the IP for the printer
  • Once the IP matches in your POS, use the ‘Test’ button to confirm communications are enabled. You are now ready to print.

Epson Bluetooth printer configuration

  1. With the power turned off, hold the feed button down
  2. Keep holding the feed button and then switch the power on
  3. After a few seconds the printer will print a status sheet
  4. Keep holding the feed button for a couple more seconds until the amber light is flashing

Note:

Now that the printer is in pairing mode, Bluetooth compatible devices should see it when you run a scan. This means that you can now pair the printer to the device.

On the tablet:

  1. Launch the app
  2. Login and select Register Settings on the home screen.
  3. Navigate to the printer you wish to set (kitchen, register, etc)
  4. Use the Magnifying Glass Icon to find the bluetooth printer you just paired
  5. Once selected, select Save

After the printer is paired with the tablet:

  1. Turn off the printer to exit pairing mode
  2. Turn the printer back on to boot in print mode.

Support Staff Info

To enable DHCP on a Printer, you must log into its web interface by visiting its IP via port 80 on a web browser. If the local router is not configured for the same subnet as the Printer in question, you will have to use another (temp) router to log in, or temporarily change the configured subnet of the local router. Changing the local subnet on the router can have adverse effects on the ability of the customer’s point-of-sale to perform sales, so it is best left as a last resort.

Example Subnet mismatch:

Router IPs on Tablet / Other Printers / Terminal:

  • 192.168.1.23

IP of Printer (no DHCP)

  • 192.168.0.1

To remedy this, you will need to change the router’s subnet to match the ‘0’ as requested by the printer.

Note

If you notice, the IP of the Printer is set to xxx.xxx.xxx.1 – which is often the same IP that the router wants to reserve. You will need to set the router’s IP to something different, such as 192.168.0.254 to avoid collisions.

Once you have the router’s IP and Subnet configured to match the Printer, you can then navigate to http://192.168.0.1 or the IP of your particular Printer as referred to on the Parameter Receipt you printed earlier. Upon visiting this page, you will see a web configuration interface. You can use the TCP / IP settings Page to configure the Printer as needed. Once the settings are in place, click Apply and THEN Reboot. Take note of the IP address you specified.

Once the Printer has rebooted, change the router’s IP back to what it was or switch the Printer back to its original router if you were using a temporary router.

Follow these steps one more time:

  • Power off the Printer by holding down the Power Button.
  • Press and hold the Feed Button while simultaneously holding the Power Button
  • Release the Feed Button when a Receipt starts printing.
  • This Parameter Receipt will display all relevant information for the Printer.
  • Enter the new IP address from the Parameter Receipt into the point-of-sale and test the Printer; you should now be able to Print.
