Profit Margin
The Profit Margin report is located under Analytics in the Navigation Menu under the All Categories option. The Profit Margin report shows a gross profit, based solely on the sales of items which have a Unit Price and Cost associated with them. This report does not include items which are missing either one of these values. To receive the full benefit of this report, it is recommended that Cost be maintained for your entire Item Library. You can export this report in order to take a closer look at your profitability data. Also, if you are viewing the report from the location level, the report will only display items contained within the categories, for that specific locations.
Note:
Only products which have a Unit Price and Cost defined, on the Add/Edit Item Page, are to be included in the Profit Margin Report. If the cost is defined as “0”, that item is included in calculations.
Metric Panels
The Profit Margin report lists four metric panels that will display the information for each Category. You can select a date range to view the information by clicking the date dropdown and choosing a specific timeframe you would like to view.
Items With Cost:
Total number of items with Cost maintained, for the selected Category, for all locations associated to the account.
Net Sales:
Total Net Sales for all items with a Unit Price and Cost, in the selected category, for all locations under the Account.
Profit:
Total profit earned, for the items within the selected category, for the account or the specific location
Margin Ratio:
Total percent of profit earned, for items within the selected category, for all Locations with the account.
NOTE:
If an item has both Cost and Location Cost maintained, that item will only be counted once. Also, Gift Cards will not be included in calculations.If a date range is selected which contains multiple Cost values, the average will be used.
Export
The Export options will allow user to export the Profit Margin report into two different file formats:
Export PDF
This option will allow a user to export the Profit Margin report details into a viewable PDF file.
Export Excel
This option will allow a user to export the Profit Margin report details into a Excel file.
Line & Bar Charts
Net Sales & Margin Ratio by Date
Displays data based on the all items, contained within all categories, for all locations within the account and will track Net Sales and profit earned, by date.
Net Sales & Profit by Date
Displays data based on the items contained within the selected category, for all locations within the account.
Pie Charts
Top 10 Sales
Displays top 10 most profitable categories, by sales value, for all locations within the account.
Top 10 Quantity Sold
Displays top 10 most profitable items, for items within the specific category, for all locations within the account, by quantity sold.
Listing Panel
Category
Category is only displayed when the user is in Category context.
Also displays all Category names that have been set up.
Item
Item is only displayed when a user has selected a Category, from the Category drop-down, or pressed a link from the listing panel.
Display only the Items belonging to the selected category.
Qty Sold
The total number of items with Cost that have been sold, for that category.
Items without a Cost will be excluded from the calculation.
Net Sales
Net Sales displays the total value of the sale for the item, for the defined date/time, as a dollar value.
Cost
Cost displays (Sum of Cost /Qty Sold) for all items in the category.
Profit
Profit displays total profit as a dollar value.
Margin Ratio
Margin Ratio is the Difference between Unit Price and Cost, as percentage value.
